Caldera and Helius Announce OEM Agreement for the OpenLinux version of Network Edition for DirecPC™

Partnership to provide needed Internet solutions to Project GoldenNet

Orem, UT – March 23, 1998 – Caldera®, Inc. and Helius™, Inc. today announced an OEM agreement that will provide the OpenLinux version of Helius' Network Edition for DirecPC to the Linux market. This solution provides an OpenLinux server with a high-speed, satellite-based Internet gateway application for all clients on a network. For the Linux version of the Helius product, Caldera OpenLinux is the reference platform for the Linux market.

"With Internet access and data delivery being essential to business and educational organizations, Network Edition for DirecPC for OpenLinux is a simple, dependable solution," said Bryan Sparks, President and CEO of Caldera. "This is ideal for OpenLinux customers who need Internet access but whose connectivity options are either unreliable, too expensive or unavailable."

According to Myron Mosbarger, President of Helius, "Developing our product for Linux was key for us and working with Caldera was an obvious choice. There is a huge opportunity, especially in the education arena, to make available high-speed Internet connectivity at a low cost."

As an initial project, Caldera and Helius will partner with the Kern County Superintendent of Schools to provide Internet servers and satellite-to-LAN connectivity to Project GoldenNet remote sites. Project GoldenNet is an initiative to establish a network infrastructure and to bring the Internet to K-12 schools throughout the state of California.

"Caldera and Helius have stepped up to offer a quality and affordable Internet solution for schools," said Dr. Angel Sanchez, Chief Administrative Officer of the Information Resources and Technology Services Division for the Kern County Superintendent of Schools Office in Bakersfield, CA. "The testing we have done in our remote sites shows that the technology is doing exactly what it is supposed to be doing by bringing the Internet to schools and children in locations we once thought impossible to reach."
