HELIUS ENTERS JAPANESE SATELLITE MARKET THROUGH TRADING PARTNERSHIP WITH ITOCHU COMMUNICATIONS ITOCHU
Teams with Helius to Answer Japanese System Integrators' Demands for Stable,
High-Speed Internet Connectivity
OREM, UTAH June 29, 1999 Helius Inc., a leading developer
of satellite data access solutions, announced today that it has signed
a master agreement with ITOCHU Communications Corp. to market and sell
Helius data-over-satellite products in Japan. The agreement with the Japanese
trading giant signals the entry of Helius into a key world satellite market,
allowing the company to better meet strong demands by Japanese system
integrators for robust satellite Internet solutions through ITOCHU's extensive
market reach.
"This agreement furthers Helius' position in the global satellite
data market," said Myron Mosbarger, president of Helius. "Now
Japanese educational organizations, small businesses, branch offices and
consumers can take advantage of high-speed Helius satellite products."
Commenting on the agreement, Shozo Yamada, chief operating officer of
ITOCHU Communications, said, "ITOCHU has a keen interest in the satellite
telecommunications market in Japan. Helius has great potential because
of its high-speed data transmission, and many corporate customers are
showing interest in this service."
Under the terms of the agreement, ITOCHU and Helius will partner with
the Japanese information technology (IT) distributor, Inno Micro Corp.
to resell the full Helius product line including the newly launched Helius
Satellite Router. Through this new relationship, Inno Micro can
now aggressively market and support the Helius Satellite Router to systems
integrators such as Fujitsu and Mitsubishi Electric which are requesting
the robust satellite Internet access features of the product. To date,
Helius has sold several hundred units to ITOCHU and Inno Micro, with pending
orders for sales volume into the thousands by the end of 1999.
"Inno Micro has been the master IT distributor for ITOCHU Communications
for the multimedia market in Japan. The satellite industry is our special
focus market in 1999 because of rapid customer demand for mass bi-directional
Internet solutions in schools and in education. The Japanese Education
Bureau indicated a change from the current objective - of students being
familiar with how to use a PC - to the year 2001 objective, which is for
teachers to know how to use a PC system in the education field. Helius'
solution will give us the answer to meet these customer demands,"
said Paul Ryumae, president of Inno Micro.
"ITOCHU will market Helius products through Inno Micro Corporation,
who is our domestic reseller and system integrator," Mr. Yamada continued.
"And also two excellent manufacturers, Fujitsu and Mitsubishi Electric,
will be involved in the sales of Helius' products as system integrators.
Recently Fujitsu installed many systems at Mycal Co. Ltd., which is a
large chain super discount store. Both Fujitsu and Mitsubishi have won
bids to install several hundred more systems in 1999. This indicates to
us that the conditions for sales of Helius products in Japan are most
desirable."
"Signing this Master Distribution Agreement with ITOCHU formalizes
the excellent relationship that Inno Micro, Helius and ITOCHU have developed
over the past year, and now broadens the opportunities for Helius in Japan,"
said Myron Mosbarger. "We are very pleased to have these well-respected
and trusted partners."
The Helius Satellite Router, which is experiencing rapid adoption worldwide,
is an all-in-one hardware, software, and service "appliance"
which provides high-speed data access via satellite to any network operating
system. Recent tests in Japan by Fujitsu successfully measured the Satellite
Router's stability in delivering high-bandwidth Internet access speeds
of up to three megabits per second. This extensive testing has revealed
that the Satellite Router meets the speed, reliability, and ease-of-use
requirements of Japanese educational sites, branch offices, and small
businesses for robust Internet access. Another key feature of the product
is the Helius Virtual Technician (SM) service, which allows the Satellite
Router to be supported and maintained remotely. This remote service dramatically
improves customer satisfaction and reduces technical support costs.
Helius Inc. is the premier - both "first" and "highest quality"
- developer of data-over-satellite solutions for local area networks (LANs).
Helius provides Internet service to tens of thousands of users throughout
