HELIUS EXPANDS SATELLITE ROUTER CAPABILITIES TO SUPPORT NEW MOTOROLA COMPUTER GROUP NETWORK APPLIANCE

SLX Series Brings Satellite-Data Access to Telecommunications Industry

OREM, UTAH – August 11, 1999 – Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and enterprise organizations can experience increased speed and availability of Internet data with a new product combination from Helius Inc. and Motorola Computer Group (MCG). At LinuxWorld today, Helius announced it has developed its satellite-data access technology to work with MCG's SLX Series Linux-based embedded computing platform, which was announced Monday. MCG will showcase this product combination at LinuxWorld Expo (booth 844).

The SLX Series is a platform that delivers Internet networking applications - such as Web access, Web security, Web caching and virtual private networks (VPNs). This new product line targets telecommunications original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) that build networking solutions for ISPs and government and business organizations requiring cost-effective access to the Internet.

"Satellite delivers unbeatable speed for applications like IP multicast and remote Internet access," explained Myron Mosbarger, president and chief executive officer of Helius. "This relationship with Motorola Computer Group creates new opportunities for data transfer via satellite in the telecommunications industry. MCG's reputation as a telecom platform industry leader and Helius' satellite expertise are a winning combination."

Noel Lesniak, product marketing manager for MCG, concurred. "Helius satellite technology expands the market uses of the SLX Series platform and provides our OEM customers with more data access options and capabilities."

Helius develops satellite interface solutions, connecting local area networks (LANs) to the Internet via satellite, regardless of the network operating system (NOS) and compatible with multiple satellite service providers. By creating a reliable, intuitive satellite interface, Helius is able to dramatically enhance customers' experience with the entire service. Helius also optimizes service performance with features such as Advanced Packet Filtering™ for maximum throughput and Dynamic Service Multiplexer™ for optimal network load-balancing. An additional feature, the Virtual Technician (SM) service, provides built-in remote support capabilities.

By developing for MCG's SLX Series server appliance, Helius gains entrance to the telecommunications industry and to enterprise organizations requiring rugged and reliable rack-mounted devices for their Internet access solutions. Dataquest predicts the Internet access market will grow from $2 billion in 1999 to $16 billion in 2002, with revenue growth of 70 percent per year; Merrill Lynch forecasts server appliance sales at $16 billion in 2002.

The standalone appliance version of Helius' satellite interface technology - the Helius Satellite Router™ - is experiencing rapid adoption worldwide due to its reliability, versatility and market need.
