HELIUS TO DEVELOP SATELLITE ROUTERS WITH EMBEDDED LINUX
Joins Certified Partner Program with Lineo, Leading Embedded Linux Provider
Orem, Utah June 7, 2000 Helius Inc. today
announced it has joined the Lineo Partner Connect program as a Certified
Embedix Partner. Through the program Helius will develop satellite
routers based on embedded Linux.
"By using embedded Linux we can develop satellite routers
that are smaller, simpler and potentially less expensive, running on a
wide choice of processors," said Myron Mosbarger, president and chief
executive of Helius. "Lineo is at the forefront of the embedded Linux
industry and we are pleased to join their certified partner program."
"The Lineo Partner Connect program provides original
equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of embedded devices a way to know that
the applications and the operating system have already been tested to
work, decreasing time to market and shortening the OEM development cycle,"
said Allan Smart, vice president of professional services at Lineo Inc.
"As a Certified Embedix Partner, the applications marketed by Helius
will undergo a rigorous testing and validation process that makes the
application highly integrated with Lineo Embedix products."
Targeted at broadband service providers and system integrators,
the new devices will provide a smaller, reduced feature-set complement
to Helius existing line of full-feature satellite router products.
"The embedded Linux router is a powerful tool for bringing satellite access
to markets that require simple, low-cost customer interface devices,"
said Mosbarger.
As the first to develop an embedded Linux satellite
router, Helius continues its market leadership, building on its development
of the first open-architecture satellite router in January 1998. Helius
routers feature Helius Optimized™ technologies to deliver maximum
throughput and optimal network load-balancing. Additionally, Helius
built-in Virtual TechnicianSM service allows remote setup and
management from a central support facility.
