HELIUS AWARDED PATENT FOR SATELLITE DATA SOLUTIONS

Premier Technology Developer Increases its Intellectual Property Portfolio

SATELLITE 2001 – WASHINGTON – March 28, 2001 – Helius, Inc., the premier technology developer for satellite data solutions, today announced it has been awarded patent number 6,205,473 entitled "Method and Systems for Asymmetric Satellite Communications for Local Area Networks." This patent applies to, but is not limited to, IP multicast routing technology to multiple clients over a local area network, bi-directional electronic satellite communication supporting a variety of return channels, satellite-based Internet applications, satellite-based interactive solutions and other satellite-related applications. The patent was issued on March 20, 2001.

Helius’ intellectual property portfolio not only includes this patent, but other pending patent applications, copyrights to software products and programs, trade and industry secrets and other rights in its proprietary technologies. As a technology company with experienced and seasoned engineers and developers, Helius sees its current foundation of intellectual property as a springboard to further development and innovation. Helius has been a leader in the satellite IP solutions software arena since its inception in 1995. To bolster its new patent, Helius previously filed multiple continuation applications to pursue coverage of additional and broader inventions in this field. Any patents issuing from these applications will add strength and breadth to Helius’ patent portfolio and will date back to March 20, 2001, the original patent award date. "The issuance of this patent validates the vision and development of the early Helius founders," states Helius President and CEO Myron Mosbarger. "This patent allows us to claim the value and rights of our early pioneering efforts in the satellite industry."

Helius is currently working with its attorneys and other advisors to develop a strategy and policy for enforcement of the patent. Information about the patent can be obtained on the Helius Web site at http://www.helius.com. Companies concerned about infringement or interested in additional information about the patent should contact Jon Nelson at Helius. Helius is currently engaged in discussions with other companies regarding Helius technologies and intellectual property.
