Helius Leads with Full Suite of Video Services

Helius Satellite Router v2 Advances Satellite IP Routing

LINDON, UTAH—November 18, 2002—Helius, Inc., the world leader in satellite broadband (IP) routing, today announced the availability of its Helius Satellite Router v2 (HSR2), the first product of its kind to offer a full suite of video services—including conversion of digital video broadcast (DVB) to IP multicast in real-time, configurable video playlists, ad rotation, full-featured logging, video playback, video-on-demand, and electronic program guide (EPG).

“We’re extending our lead in satellite IP routing through innovation,” said Myron Mosbarger, president and CEO of Helius. “As Helius was the first to offer video features, the introduction of HSR v2 provides customers with new bar-raising features and the most flexible configuration support available.”

“HSR v2 goes where no other satellite router has gone or can go at this point,” said Christopher Baugh president of Northern Sky Research, an analyst firm. “The video services in this version are a significant new offering.”

HSR v2 is a fully IP compliant broadband router with a satellite interface. This patented router has been designed as a modular, robust platform with a complete suite of data, video, and content management applications. It offers the flexibility to customize or add new features and functionality without affecting the stability of the core system.

HSR v2 builds upon earlier versions (which introduced TV-out and hard disk storage in a satellite IP router) with new video services and features, including:

• Receiving, storing, and/or routing DVB satellite traffic containing data, voice, and video to any IP network.
• Accessing configurable video playlists and ad rotation with full-featured logging
• Video playback and video on demand
• Electronic program guide (EPG)
• Personal video recorder (PVR)
• IP Multicast Streaming
• Support for DHCP, DNS, VPN, streamed video and other networked services
• Service Advertising Protocol (SAP) support
• MPEG-1/2 decoder support
• Remote management support
• Conditional Access
• Infrared remote control
• Auto-reroute on signal loss

Retail services, corporate training, and marketing programs deliver better results when HSR v2 is deployed. Current HSR customer applications range from business TV, interactive distance learning, broadband internet access, corporate broadcasts, corporate training, software updates, sensitive file distribution, and audience-focused advertising.

“Multi-faceted, multi-location organizations will find that HSR v2 can enhance retail services, reduce training costs, and open up new marketing opportunities,” said Mosbarger. “Using HSR v2 to combine a current business TV network with a LAN delivers impressive results.”

Pricing and Availability
Helius Satellite Router v2 is priced at $2,499 (MSRP) with a standard 80 gigabyte hard drive. Other storage options are available.
